Dr. Michael Aaron Williams is the new Chief Medical Information Officer for the University of Virginia Health System, as well as an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and a practicing general pediatrician. He is the former Regional CMIO for the North Shore LIJ Health System, and CMIO / Director of Clinical Informatics for the Central Georgia Health System, where he was also a clinical professor, physician executive, and a practicing physician. Dr. Williams is a graduate of the University of Virginia College of Arts and Sciences and Harvard Medical School. While at University of Virginia he was a Holland and Echols Scholar, as well as a proud volunteer for the Ron Brown Scholar Program. In addition to his extensive Clinical IT experience, he holds two clinical boards. The first in General Pediatrics and the second in Clinical Informatics. Dr. Williams is among the first few physicians nationwide to receive board certification in Clinical Informatics, which was administered by the American Board of Preventive Medicine during October 2013. It is the first new medical specialty to be established in over 20 years.
